"I have been on the committee with Purley Cricket club for several years, in various roles. The last few years responsible for house and grounds. Consequently i have worked very closely with the Ward family, who have been our groundsmen for a long time.

We have refurbished our square, and with the work of Roger and Ollie, we have, by common consent, not only the best square outside the premiership, but possibly the best in Surrey club cricket. This is not just our opinion by the way, We finished top of the league in mark's given by umpire's and opposing captain's. Due to this we have staged an increasing number of Surrey games, up to 2nd eleven standard, over the past few season's.

"East Grinstead Cricket Club (EGCC) entered into a contract to employ 'Southern Sportsground Services' (SSS) on a year to year contract to prepare pitches on their main ground at East Grinstead Sport Club, Saint Hill Rd, to meet the demanding standards set by the Sussex Premier league, and a second ground at Fonthill Lodge, when the full time groundsman resigned his position for health reasons.

The groundsman assigned to work on the pitches at EGCC is Ollie Ward who has several years’ experience working on high standard club grounds. Over the years the cricket club have had a very good working relationship with him, and additionally we have confidence that there is always some professional back-up from SSS should it be needed due to illness or injury, something that is not always the case when we employed groundsmen directly.

The vast experience of Roger Ward and his sons, who work as a team particularly during end of season repairs, means that we also have access to good independent advice on purchase of materials and equipment. The club has been very satisfied with the work that has been completed and the professional way that it has been done during the period of the contract."

"Southern Sportsground Services (SSS) have undertaken Lindfield CC – Sussex, cricket square end of season renovations as well as overseen projects such as ‘koroing’ and ‘frase mowing’ of the square, levelling of our outfield and wicket preparation. The work that SSS have completed has dramatically improved the grass coverage and performance of the square and now marked by the league umpires as one of the best in the County as well as receiving plaudits from players and visiting teams.

Roger, Ollie and their team have also always been a great help and support and worked tirelessly to provide high quality ground maintenance.
